All of the solutions listed above are tried and true. As one of the larger Houston phone system dealers, I can guarantee how these products are going to work.

During your research for a phone system, you are going to run across many different brands and many different prices. Some of these will be the Toshiba, NEC DSX, Comdial, Vodavi STS, Talkswitch, Avaya Office IP, Cisco, Allworx, Siemans, Inter-Tel, Mitel and the ESI.

I have the power and ability to sell ANY of these phone systems. For very good reasons on each, I choose not to. Each has their own various reasons, but generally they have to do with ease of use issues, high price points for low value, lack of local support, straight quality issues and others. I have removed plenty of each to be replaced with a good solution and I will guarantee our solutions on all points.

The following points I urge you to keep in mind.
  • How well is "this" phone system known by the masses of Houston phone technicians?

Within our local Houston Market, certain systems will be locked down to only certain technical shops. Shops will use this to their advantage and gouge you on service knowing you won't have much luck finding anyone else. And even if you did, who says they gave you the password to your own system?
  • Is "this" phone system convoluted to operate and maintain? Ask me, I'll tell you.
  • Is the solution cost effective to expand?
  • Is the solution more expensive than it should be or has to be?
  • Is this solution going to remain on the market long enough for me to get parts? (the NEC DS syndrome)

When it comes to installing a phone system in your office for your business, the task will be overwhelming without some good advice.

My name is Jay Harper. I have owned and operated Tele Technology since 1998. What you are reading here is all my years of collected wisdom, based on my own trial and error. If you take the time to read all of what I write, your basic knowledge will increase and you will be much better armed to make a good decision.

If you are in a hurry, call me immediately at 281-894-6606. Ask for me by name, I'll be happy to explain this all to you.

I make recommendations on business phone systems all the time, everyday. First, I only recommend solutions that I know for a fact, work. I get calls not only from the local Houston area but all over the great USA.

How and what I recommend depends on some questions I have for you. I will need to know how many lines you are going to need now and in the future. I need to know how many phones you need now and in the future. I need to know your voicemail requirements. I need to know your time table. I need to know about the office space and it's current setup.

Generally, each of the phone systems that I would recommend to anyone have very similar costs. The phone units themselves range from $120 to $165 each. The actual phone systems are within hundreds of dollars of one another, voicemail too. So to that end, cost really shouldn't be the starting point, they are all going to be close.

Most of my customers who are purchasing a brand new phone system end up with a Nortel Norstar system. Second in line behind that is an Avaya Partner ACS system. under certain conditions, one system might have a distinct advantage over the other.

Both are fine phone systems. Once installed, they will both do the things most people ask for. Those being the phones ring, you can dial out and reach someone, hold, music while on hold, transfer, intercom, a voicemail box for everyone, a daytime auto attendant and a night time auto attendant. This is generally what most people find themselves using every day.

Of course both phone systems will do more than that, a lot more actually, but what the hey, days get busy and these fun ideas get lost in the flow.

How I match a system to depends a lot around the number of phone lines and what type they are.

If you are going to have a T-1 or a PRI that will terminate directly into your phone system, then there is only one logical choice, the Norstar Modular ICS.

If you have a small office with only 3 phones and a very small voicemail requirement, then the Partner ACS is going to make sense and cost a bit less. Much thanks to their small PCMIA voicemail cards, which do the trick at a great price for small offices.

If you have 7 phone lines and 10 phones, now the Norstar Compact ICS makes the best fiscal sense.

Beyond those two, the Panasonic KX-TA824.. some people love them, I personally feel that in an office, your money might be better used on a comparatively priced Norstar system. For homes though, the 824 rules, always! Mostly due to the cordless phones you can use with it and it's small size.
